7 Types of Godly Girlfriends Every Christian Woman Needs (for her journey)

Est. Read Time: 2 minutes
  1. A friend (or Spiritual Mother) who can shake the heavens in prayer – There is nothing more empowering than being able to call up your sister when you are going through spiritual warfare. I mean, a sister who knows and understands that the weapons of our warfare aren’t carnal, but mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. She knows how to pray fervently, effectively, and violently when the need arises. She is an intercessor and watchman.
  2. A friend that she can trust – This gal sees and values your triumphs and trials. Your deepest matters of the heart are safe with her. No personal agendas, or hidden motives, secret competition, or breaching confidence. What is shared stays here.
  3. A friend who doesn’t judge or condemn – This friend doesn’t make you feel worthless and without hope when you’ve tripped up. She knows that we all fall short and need God’s mercy.
  4. A friend who tells the truth in love – In addition to not making you feel worthless or without hope, this friend is courageous enough to tell you the truth…in love. She won’t compromise God’s truth in order to preserve the friendship. She is willing to help hold you accountable when you’re walking below grace.
  5. A friend who is strong in a key area that she is weak – You’ve probably heard the advice to surround yourself with people who you aspire to be like or who are “better” than you in some regard or wealthier. The concept behind this is that folks will “rub off” on you. If there is a struggle that you have, or an area that you wish to strengthen or become seasoned in, surround yourself with women who have overcame or women who exemplify God’s design in this area.
  6. A friend who is led by the Holy Spirit and knows the Word of God – Life experience, education, achievements, and accolades are all wonderful, but this friend has her house built on the Rock. She is rich in spirit because she walks closely with the Lord and is not only sensitive to the Holy Spirit, but obeys.
  7. A friend who sows into her and encourages her growth – This can be sowing into her spiritually with encouragement and God’s truth; sowing into her ministry or needs by being present or supporting financially. However it is, this friend has your best interest in mind in a meaningful and tangible way.

Having solid friends to walk through life with is necessary for growth and support. We weren’t made to be alone. The Word (The Bible) tells us that iron sharpens iron, and two is better than one. Maybe friendships are a sore area for you because of past hurt or disappointment. Thankfully, no area is off limits for prayer. Pray about your friendships. Pray about the ones you currently have, the ones you desire, and also pray about being the type of friend that your friends need.

Remember that we are all human, and no one person will meet all our needs, or be all the “friends” outlined in my little ol’ list. The intent is not to scrutinize your friendships with the purpose of judging and tossing anyone who doesn’t measure up! The intent of this list is to get you thinking about the importance and influence of your circles as a Christian woman who is looking to grow in her faith all around.

Until next time,

Hannah

  1. I love this and I so agree. I just shared a similar post. I needed prayer today and I reached out to my big sister in the Lord. She is on the intercessory prayer team at my church and she reached out to the other prayer warriors to stand in agreement. Thank God for fellow believers in Christ who can pray for you.

  2. Reblogged this on Christian Mommas and commented:
Yesterday, the need for godly relationships was discussed on the blog. I piggybacked on Hasini’s post and emphasized the importance of community and asking for help.

Apart from our immediate family members, our friends are often the ones we turn to in crisis. What type of friends do you have? I have friends who can shake heaven with me and tell me the truth when it is difficult to accept. Do you have such friends? In this post, Hannah Forbes-Smith asserts that every Christian woman should have friends with 7 key qualities. I agree with her propositions and I am excited to share her post with you. Enjoy and be blessed! 2 mins read.
